The symbol of the Father

Building symbols, building networks and learning - I

An example will show better. Suppose someone is saying something about a supermarket that was opened. Do the following:

Think about what time of year you are, the month, the time you received this information, the weather was like. Think about where supermarket is located, and imagine a path from where you are to where it stands. Try to understand the region where it will stay under the point of view of competition, or which supermarket the next you feel threatened by the presence of this supermarket.

You may find it silly to think these things, but with time you will understand that it's time to go shopping in the supermarket, you can find work to get to him, by location, because when they received the information, did not work out its meaning with care.
You can also understand that the volume of their purchases is not compatible with the movement of the supermarket. You buy low, and the supermarket is better to meet the month's purchases.
This situation is a bit silly, but we need to assume a posture analytical, investigative front of the facts that emerge, as this is the attitude that our brain expects us to take the information before, because otherwise we will fall into the laziness mental.

The symbol is a network

As users of a neural network, the brain, in other words a network of neural networks, we can say that a mental symbol can be an entire neural network constructed by personal experience or an important global event of impact. The first can be exemplified by a personal trauma and the second by a world war.

Mental symbols lasts too long, and too great a burden on human life and existence, hence sometimes you spend so much effort into a healing therapy. If it were simply a graphic symbol or a brand that you know the name (such as Coca-Cola and Fiat), things would be simpler. But a symbol formed by people and by a narrative, has a great penetration on our mental networks, like the tentacles of an octopus, and cut all these tentacles is very difficult. Hence the complexity of mental illness or neuroses result.

Symbols

The symbol is anything written or shown graphically to evoke an idea.

A brand like Coca-Cola, or the the letter M for McDonalds, or the name of John Kennedy are symbols. Each has a number of features already explained by the story to which we belong, because our brains are in bodies whose path parallels the history.

But there are psychological symbols, built into our personal history, which may not have universal meaning. For example:

"My mother did not care for me"

In this person's life the mother was not formed in your mind as the true symbol of motherhood.

"My aunt was like my mother"

In this life, the aunt is just the mother. The symbol "mother" has not changed, and the symbol "aunt" is reaching an additional meaning.

The brain works with symbols, and each time the personal symbol table does not match the universal symbol table, there may be a psychological injury.

For example, the teacher is, for most students an authority. Those students for whom it is a threat, already have a psychological defect. This defect will explain possible actions with subsequent aberrations.
